This project explores the boundaries of PET Felt as a material. We collaborated with the furniture company In-Zee, which produces various products with recycled PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) Felt sheets. The material comes in thick and sturdy sheets, which inspired me to investigate its capacity for flexibility. Through laser cutting precise lines, I am able to make modular pieces that can be stretched and bent, playing with space and dimension.
After discovering the stretchy qualities, I immediately thought of furniture-related products to make and finally came to the conclusion of implementing it as part of a chair design that would frame the person sitting in it.
The deliberate use of materials and colours adds to the context I wanted to place the product, which is more luxurious and elegant. The natural properties of the leather rope, the polished metal, as well as the mint pastel felt panels correlate to this specific context.
